PUCA.ARCHIVE started as a place to share the things I was making and the stories behind them. Through painting, animation and visual storytelling, the project explores everyday moments, memories and observations that might otherwise go unnoticed.

I am an Irish artist working across acrylic, film, animation and visual storytelling. I am inspired by the magic of art and how it can enhance the beauty of life around us. The art I make tries to capture that. It finds meaning in the ordinary and beauty in the mundane.

Having worked in the corporate world for the past three years I felt a hole in my life. After picking up a paint brush for the first time in five years I realised what that hole was. Creativity, art, music and storytelling allow me to express how I am feeling and how I interpret the world.

On the name

Named after the púca, the shapeshifting trickster of Irish folklore who shows up at dusk and changes its form to cause mischief and have a bit of fun. What draws me to it is that you never quite know what shape it will take. That uncertainty forces you to look closer, to get past the surface of something rather than giving it a quick once-over. It is rooted in Irish culture, it is playful, and the mischief it causes is the harmless kind that makes you see things differently.

The archive borrows its habit: looking at the familiar long enough that it turns into something else.
